Coming Together as a Community

The past two weeks marked two special events at the Academy.  On Wednesday, March 19, the entire Academy commemorated the feast of the Solemnity of St. Joseph by attending the 8:30 AM Mass and participating in an ancient Sicilian tradition, the St. Joseph Sharing Table.  St. Joseph is revered as the patron of peace, a happy home and charity to the poor. On his feast day, families extend hospitality to all who come to their door. Following the original custom, the Academy’s Sharing Table was decorated with a statue of St. Joseph surrounded with flowers and filled with fruits, vegetables, breads and pastries.  After the Mass the children went to the cafeteria to partake in the offerings of the table.  After choosing their food, the students returned to their classroom to say prayers and enjoy the food with their classmates.  This is a wonderful event that is celebrated every year and we thank Jen Mongold and Maria Amador for helping organize and plan such a special feast for the students.

Nearly 600 people from the parish, school, and surrounding community participated in the 4th Annual SBA 5K run and walk where more than $14,000 was raised for the St. Bartholomew Academy Home School Association.  The weather was perfect for a run and to celebrate the start of spring. The overall winners of the 5K were Patrick Hickory and Danielle Halikas.  The first place SBA students were 8th grader Jack White and 6th grader Ashleigh Patterson.  Congratulations to all!  We are very grateful to Blanche Ryder, our volunteer Race Director and we thank her and her team for their hard work in making this event such a success.
