Coronavirus Cases At Scotch Plains-Fanwood Nursing Homes

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ — Here are the latest coronavirus cases and deaths for both staff members and senior residents living at nursing homes and long-term care facilities in Scotch Plains, Fanwood, and Union County as of Monday, May 25. Gov. Phil Murphy said last week that his administration was moving to a new reporting metric which now separates the cases between staff members from residents.

The state has a dashboard set up that tracks the number of cases statewide, including how many cases and fatalities involve long-term care facilities. There are two facilities in Scotch Plains and Fanwood, here are the latest numbers.

Ashbrook Care and Rehabilitation Center in Scotch Plains has 33 cases and 10 deaths for seniors, and 36 cases and 0 deaths for staff members while The Chelsea at Fanwood in Fanwood has 18 cases and 11 deaths for seniors, and 6 cases and 0 deaths for staff members

Comparing Scotch Plains and Fanwood to Union County, the latest in Union County show 1,268 senior cases and 590 total staff cases are spread among the 29 impacted facilities. There have been 445 deaths of senior and 10 deaths of staff members at these facilities as reported by the NNJDOH.

The largest outbreak in Union County remains at Cranford Rehab and Nursing Center in Cranford. The report shows 113 cases and 44 deaths of seniors and 39 cases and 0 deaths of staff members.

Here are the facilities in Union County that have residents positive for the coronavirus, followed by the deaths of residents (in parenthesis), followed by the number of COVID-19 positive staff, followed by the number of COVID-19 confirmed deaths of staff members (in parenthesis) that have happened at those facilities. The list of facilities was provided by the state Department of Health; there may be discrepancies due to a delay in communications between the facilities and the state:

Statewide, 20,771 positive cases for seniors and 9,681 positive cases for staff members of the coronavirus have been identified at 536 long-term care facilities. There have been 4,768 deaths total of seniors and staff at these facilities.
