On Monday, December 7 at 7 pm, the Evening Book Club will meet to discuss An Unexpected Guest by Anne Korkeakivi. Clare Moorhouse, the American wife of a high-ranking diplomat in Paris, is arranging an official dinner crucial to her husband’s career. As she shops for fresh stalks of asparagus and works out the menu and seating arrangements, her day is complicated by the unexpected arrival of her son and a random encounter with a Turkish man, whom she discovers is a suspected terrorist.
The Afternoon Book Club will meet on Tuesday, December 15 at 1 pm to discuss Lisette’s List by Susan Vreeland. A young Parisian woman is exiled to Provence to take care of her husband’s ailing grandfather during the Vichy regime, but discovers that despite the horrors of war, the paintings of Cezanne, Pisarro, Chagall, and Picasso bring to life the landscape around her and allow her once again to experience love.
