Fanwood Challenged To Recycle 500 Pounds Of Plastic Bags

Trex will turn the 500 pounds of thin film plastic into a recycled park bench for the borough.

FANWOOD, NJ — Fanwood residents are being challenged to recycle 500 pounds of thin film plastics to be turned into a recycled park bench from Trex for the community.

"This program is intended to raise awareness of all the plastics that are in our lives and the best ways to dispose of them," the borough posted.

Acceptable plastics include grocery bags, bread bags, bubble wrap, dirty cleaning bags, ice bags, plastic shopping envelopes, Ziploc and other reusable storage bags, cereal bags, case overwrap, salt bags, pallet wrap and stretch film, wood pellet bags and produce bags.

Residents can drop off plastic at: the Fanwood Municipal Building, Fanwood Library, Fanwood Larder, and Fanwood Train Station, available during commuter hours in the south side building.

Trex, a company that specializes in composite decking, furniture and other eco-friendly products, aggregates the thin film plastics collected and repurposes them to create outdoor benches.
