Fanwood Curbside Recycling Starts Thursday
Fanwood is reminding residents to make sure they have their blue container at the curb by 7 a.m. on Thursday for pickup.

FANWOOD, NJ — Curbside recycling arrives in Fanwood on Thursday and the borough is reminding residents to make sure they have their blue container at the curb by 7 a.m.
"We recommend you set it out the night before so you don't forget. The diagram on the lid reminds you which way to face it (little metal bar faces the street) and what items you can place in it," Fanwood Borough announced.
Items allowed to be placed in the container include:

- household plastics #1-7,
- tin cans,
- aluminum cans,
- newspaper,
- mixed paper,
- cardboard,
- books
- and magazines.
Books and newspapers can also be stacked in boxes or bags next to the container.
Loose plastic grocery bags are not allowed in the bin as they clog the machinery in New Brunswick. Instead bunch them together and tie them together into a ball.

Shredded paper has to be placed in clear plastic bags and set next to the bin.
The plan is for the entire town's recycling to be collected all in one day, then every other Thursday.
If for some reason the PMUA misses your house or you have another complaint or problem, you can push the contact button on your Recycle Coach smart phone app and send a message. You can also call the PMUA directly at (908) 226-2518or send them an email at reachpmua@pmua.org.
"Remember, this is a first for all of us, so your patience will be appreciated," Fanwood announced.
On Saturday, from 8 to 11 a.m., only Fanwood residents can bring their electronics, scrap metal, fluorescent bulbs and motor oil to the North Avenue recycling center. Then starting in November, residents can do so the first Saturday of every month, 8 to 11 a.m.
