Fanwood Police Buy 250 Cookies After Resident Curses at Girl Scouts
Fanwood police and officials came together to buy 250 boxes of cookies from two local Girl Scouts after an angry resident cursed at them

Fanwood, NJ -- Fanwood Police and officials bought 250 boxes of cookies from two local Girl Scouts after an angry woman yelled and cursed at them.
“I am very happy that they took a really negative experience that both of my daughters went through and made it positive,” Sandra Crespo, mother of the scouts told Patch. “They went above and beyond.”
The incident unfolded last month when Crespo took her 12 and 9 year old daughters, Angelina and Natalie Skolar, door-to-door in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood area to sell cookies.

“We were at one woman’s house and taking her order when a woman across street started yelling and cursing at us,” Crespo said. “She was saying things like ‘Nobody wants your f-ing cookies!’”
Crespo posted about the encounter on a community Facebook page where Dianne Howarth, the Fanwood Police Chief Administrator, caught wind of it.

“I thought ‘Who yells and curses at a kids?’” Howarth told Patch.
Howard posted a flier in Fanwood police headquarters asking for officers to buy cookies. In total, police, court officials and employees of borough hall bought 250 boxes of cookies for the girls.
“They are both ecstatic,” Crespo said of the girls’ reactions.
Crespo split the orders between the two girls.
“Little kids come to headquarters for visits and this was a nice police interaction,” Howarth said. “The little girl was adorable. She came in with a thank you card and her mom and her were both very sweet.”
