Fanwood Residents Warned Of Phone Scam

"DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER or any other personal information. Hang up the phone," Fanwood Police said.

FANWOOD, NJ — Fanwood Police are warning about a phone scam targeting borough residents.

Several residents reported getting calls from the United States Department of Social Security, about their social security benefits.

One resident reported the caller stated that there would be “disciplinary measures taken if she did not assist them,” Fanwood Police Chief Richard Trigo said.

"THIS IS A SCAM. The Department of Social Security never contacts anyone by phone. DO NOT GIVE OUT YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER or any other personal information. Hang up the phone," Trigo said.

Residents who receive a call from the Social Security Administration should contact the Fanwood Police Department at 908-322-5000.
