Fanwood-Scotch Plains Y Gymnasts Compete at State Championship Meets
The FSPY gymnasts had many strong individual performers

The 2023 New Jersey YMCA Gymnastics League State Championship meets were held at the Madison Area YMCA on Sunday, June 4, 2023.
The day started with the Excel Gold Division. The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) gymnasts placed 4th behind the Madison Y hosts, who captured the first place trophy in all divisions. The FSPY gymnasts had many strong individual performers.
Excel Gold first competed in the 9-11 year age group for FSPY, and it was a large group of competitors. Emma Papernik placed 3rd in vault and 7th in all around. Ryley Mathisen placed 5th on Floor, while Lily Rykus placed 6th on Vault. Mia Sheier rounded out the FSYPY contingent competing well in all four events.

The 12-13-year-old age group was also a large group. One gymnast from FSPY competed in this age group. Avery Sallinger, who showed a strong performance in all four events for team FSPY. The Excel Gold team had a tremendous year for their first year competing on our team.
The Platinum level gymnasts competed next, and ended the day in 3rd place behind Madison. The two gymnasts competing in this level were Milan Fevrier in the 11-13 age group and Jessica Glander in the 14+ age group. Both girls worked hard to put in strong routines. Jessica came home with the 3rd place medal in the Vault and placed 7th in All Around for her age group. Milan Fevrier placed 4th in Floor Exercise, and 5th overall in her age group.

The FSPY Diamond Team placed 3rd behind the teams from Madison and Somerset Valley with one gymnast competing at this level. In the 17+ age group, Alana Beardsley was awarded the 6th place medal on Balance Beam.
FSPY’s Level 8 competitor, Jillian Miele, competed in the 13+ age group, gaining 3rd place on Vault, and 4th place on Uneven Bars. She placed 4th in All Around. Five gymnasts from the FSPY team will be attending the YMCA National Championship meet in Cincinnati, Ohio, at the end of June.
