Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Boys Black Team Has Dual Season Opener
The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Boys Black swim team (FSPY) ushered their 2023-24 dual meet season with a win over the Summit Area YMCA Blue
The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Boys Black swim team (FSPY) ushered their 2023-24 dual meet season with a win over the Summit Area YMCA Blue Seals (SAY). The meet was held at Summit on October 14, 2023.
Individual Medleys (IM)
The 10 and under IM started off the meet with a 1st place finish from Jayden Yip and a 3rd place finish from Preston Lubenow in the 100 IM. The 11-12s continued this promising start with another 1st place touch from Jayden Le, followed by Alexandros Balakrishnan in 2nd and Ethan Yang in 4th in the 100 IM. The winning streak continued to the 13-14 200 IM with Terry Gould in 1st and Dylan Mora in 2nd. FSPY swept the IM with a 1st place finish in the 15-18 200 IM with Tyler McGeehan in 1st, Brandon Calderone in 2nd and Kyle Dripchak in 4th.

Freestyle
The 8 and under 25 freestyle swim from Cameron Kreymer earned a 6th place finish, while Max Andreoli swam to 1st and Derek Liu into 5th for the 9-10 50 yard free. The 11-12s saw 2nd, 3rd, and 4th place finishes from Charles Yu, Stefan Monteith and Charlie Lowder respectively in the 50 free. FSPY saw another 1st-2nd sweep in the 13-14 100 free with Jase Villaverde in 1st and Jayden Fevrier in 2nd, both earning points for the team. The 15-18 took 4 of the 6 top spots in the 100 Free with Tim Kou in 1st, Dylan Lagrimas in 2nd, Harrison McClure in 4th and Michael Fisher in 5th place.

Breaststroke
Andrew Tong took 6th place in the 8 and under 25 breast to open up the breaststroke events. The 9-10s followed with a 1st place finish from Andreoli in the 50 breast. Sebastian Rodriguez and Lowder took 1st and 4th, respectively, for the 11-12s, also in the 50 breast. Another 1st place finish for the team came from Braden Michaels in the 13-14 100 breast, which was followed by Villaverde with a 4th place swim in the same event. The 15-18 swept the 200 breast with Ian Dinesh taking 1st, Lagrimas in 2nd and McGeehan in 3rd.
Backstroke
Jack Piskadlo started off the backstroke events with a 1st place win in the 25 back over the 8 and under competition. Lubenow took 4th in the 9-10 50 yard back, while Le and Yu took 1st and 3rd, respectively in the 11-12 50 back. Gould tied a SAY swimmer for 1st place in the 13-14 100 back as teammate Mora took 4th. The 15-18 swimmers added more points for the team in the 200 back event with McClure touching the wall 1st, followed by Dripchack in 2nd and Fisher in 4th.
Butterfly
The butterfly events started with strong swims from the 8 and under boys with Piskadlo in 1st, Kreymer in 4th and Tong in 5th in the 25 fly. Mathew Worgan and Liu swam for the 9-10s in the 50 fly, placing 2nd and 3rd, respectively. The 11-12 swimmers swept another event—the 50 fly with Balakrishnan in 1st, Rodriguez in 2nd and Monteith in 3rd. The winning swims continued into the 13-14 100 fly event with Michaels taking 1st and Fevrier in 3rd. The 15-18 capped the individual events with five top 6 finishes in the 100 fly by Dinesh (1st), B. Calderone (2nd), Kou (4th), Corey Calderone (5th) and Logan Swenson (6th).
Freestyle Relays
The following freestyle relay teams out-touched the competition to take 1st place spots in their races:
9-10s: Yip, Liu, Worgan, Andreoli
11-12s: Balakrishnan, Rodriguez, Yu, Le
13-14s: Mora, Gould, Villaverde, Michaels
15-18s: Kou, McGeehan, B. Calderone, Swenson
The 8 and under relay team of Piskadlo, Thomas Velez, Kreymer and Adam Kanu took 2nd place. The 2nd relay team of Dinesh, Fisher, Lagrimas and Dripchak also took 3rd place for the 15-18s.
The FSPY Boys Black team will swim against Madison Area YMCA for their next dual meet at home on October 28, 2023.
