Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Gymnastics Team
Shines in First Home Gymnastics Meet Since COVID-19 Pandemic
After a long hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic and building expansion, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA gymnastics team made a triumphant return to their home turf on March 22, 2025, in their first home meet in years. The event, held at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA, was an overwhelming success, with the team delivering outstanding performances across all events, as they hosted 70 gymnasts from the Madison, Somerset Valley and South Mountain YMCA’s.
The FSPY gymnasts Excel Silver level showcased their resilience, determination, and exceptional skills in front of an enthusiastic home crowd, marking a milestone not only for the team but also for their families, friends, and supporters who have waited for this moment.
“Our first home meet in years was a huge success,” said Jennifer Glander, Director of Sports and Fine Arts at the YMCA. “The energy from the crowd and the athletes was absolutely electric. Everyone has worked so hard to get to this point, and it was incredible to see the team perform at such a high level. This is a moment we will all remember.”

The meet featured exciting routines on all apparatuses, including the vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. Representing the FSPY team were Chloe Tomlinson, who placed 3rd on Uneven Bars & 4th on vault for the 9 & Under age group. Additionally, Gabby Tezucar tied for 4th place on floor in the 11 year old age group. Team-mates Zoe Brue, Lily Romond and Zoe Alagia delivered impressive routines across all events, earning top marks in their respective age divisions. The Silver Team’s performances not only earned them praise from the judges but also captured the hearts of fans in attendance.
"We’ve all been waiting for this day for so long,” said Sarah Banasiak, one of the FSPY’s Team Coach. “It felt amazing to finally compete at home again and to see all of our hard work come to life in front of our friends, family and community. It really pushed us to give our best performance, and I couldn’t be more proud of our team."

The FSPY team not only demonstrated incredible athleticism but also showed their unwavering team spirit, with athletes from the FSPY’s Excel Gold & Platinum teams supporting each other throughout the competition. The event was a celebration of not just gymnastics, but the community that has rallied behind the team through every challenge.
Fans were treated to a thrilling display of talent, and the excitement was evident in the stands. “Seeing our team in action, performing at such a high level, was truly inspiring,” said Team Coach Alyssa Gigrouli. “It felt amazing to cheer them on, and the atmosphere was filled with so much pride and excitement.”

The Fanwood Scotch Plains YMCA gymnastics team that has been a pillar of excellence and community spirit for over 35 years. The team continues to inspire both on and off the mat, fostering a strong sense of teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship.
