Find Your Passion at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA this spring

Registration for spring programs begins February 19 at 9:00 a.m.

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is the place to be this spring! Spring 1 program registration begins Monday, February 19 at 9:00 a.m. With a variety of programs for youth, teens, adults and families you’ll find opportunities to connect with new people, develop new skills and explore new interests. You might just discover a new passion, too!

The Y’s Spring 1 Program Session runs from March 4 - April 28, 2024. Program registration is open to active FSPY members. Not a Y member? Learn about the benefits of YMCA membership and join online at fspymca.org/join-the-Y.

Teen Sports and Fitness: This spring, the Y is offering Middle School Track and Volleyball clinics for grades 5-8. The Teen Cycle class is included with membership, and there is a new Teen Strength and Lifting class, designed exclusively for teens ages 14-17 seeking a deeper understanding of strength training. Teens ages 14 and over can join any group exercise class included with membership.

Preschool and Youth Gymnastics: The Y’s caring teachers encourage each gymnast to progress at their own pace – whether their goal is to someday be a competitive gymnast or just to have fun. This spring, there will be classes for toddlers through teens at varying levels, plus a new Tumbling Techniques class for ages 7-14.

Dance Classes for Kids and Adults: The Y’s dance program for toddlers to teens is aimed at introducing participants to different techniques, building or enhancing skills and having fun! This spring, youth dance classes include Parent and Toddler Move & Groove, Intro to Tap/Ballet, Tap/Ballet 1 and Dance Fusion. New this spring, the Y will offer an Adult Ballet class designed to build a foundation in ballet technique, while exploring balance, flexibility, posture, and core strength.

Preschool and Youth Sports: The Y is excited to offer new sports programs this spring: Flag Football for ages 6-9, Dodgeball Games for ages 7-10, and Elementary School Track for grades 3 and 4. The Y is also offering Pre-K All Star Sports, Mini Ninja Warrior, and Basketball for ages 3-5. For school age kids, there’s Ninja Warrior, Volleyball Clinic, Basketball and Youth Pickle ball.

Adaptive Programs for Youth and Families: The Y strives to be inclusive and to provide programs for all kids. The Y’s adaptive programs provide opportunities for fun, socialization, and physical activity for youth with special needs. This spring, the Y is offering Assisted Special Needs Gymnastics for ages 6-10 and Inclusive Family Fitness classes. Family Fitness classes include Family Yoga, Family Zumba and Family Stretch and Tone and are open to ages 6 and older with an adult.

Youth, Teen and Adult Archery: The Y is offering Archery Introductory Workshops for ages 7-17 and for families with children ages 8 and up. The introductory workshops are open to Y members and members of the community. Participants who complete the workshop can take a 7-week archery class this spring for youth, teens and adults. Learn about range safety, stance, aim and draw. All workshops and classes are led by certified USA Archery coaches.

Preschool Enrichment Programs: During the Spring 1 Session, kids ages 3-5 can enjoy Cooking around the World, in which they will explore the tasty world of global cultures and cuisines. Or they can create fun projects from recyclable items in the Recycle and Create class, learning the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling.

Youth Enrichment Programs: The Y has a variety of fun and creative enrichment programs for school age children, such as Detectives in Training, where your child will be the first on the scene to solve a new crime each week. The Y is also offering Catch ‘Em All classes in which kids learn Pokeman, the collectible trading card game. For kids looking to explore their creativity, there is the popular Let’s Cook class, Introduction to Crocheting and Young Rembrandts.

Health and Safety classes: The Y continues to offer American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR and AED courses, as well as the American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification Course. This spring, the Y is also offering the American Red Cross Babysitting Course for ages 11-15. These programs are open to Y members and members of the community.

In addition to the above highlights, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains Y has recently completed a Wellness Center renovation, offering an expanded selection of cardio machines, free weights and strength training equipment. Plus, FSPY members have access to the new, state-of-the-art EGYM strength training circuit that tailors workouts to each individual.

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains Y also continues to offer programs and services included with full membership including: group exercise classes for all fitness levels and interests; lap swimming, aquatic exercise classes, and water walking lanes; family swim; adult sports programs; open gym; special events, and more. Plus, the Fanwood-Scotch Plains Y has a virtual wellness platform, Y Wellness 24/7, which members can access anytime, anywhere!
