“We congratulate Matt for qualifying for the prestigious U.S. Amateur,” said Chris Schiavone, Forsgate’s managing partner. “This is a notable feat especially because of the thousands of talented golfers who competed at 79 sites to make the championship field. Forsgate Country Club takes great pride in our accomplished members who work hard to gain entry to play in a national competition. We wish Matt great success in his first U.S. Amateur.”
As a junior, Cocorikis was named an All-America Scholar for 2017-18 by the Golf Coaches Association of America. He also led the Indiana University of Pennsylvania men’s golf team with the lowest stroke average of 75.79.
The U.S. Amateur format consists of two rounds of stroke play with only 64 golfers advancing into four days of single elimination match play. The surviving two finalists play a one day 36-hole match for the title.
