Scotch Plains, NJ – Four Union Catholic students, Corey Barnwell of New Providence, Jonathan Boros of Fords, Daniel Florendo of Scotch Plains, and Richard Ryngel of Union, were recently selected to attend American Legion Jersey Boys’ State at Rider University this summer. The program was organized for citizen training purposes, to educate youth in the “duties, privileges, rights and responsibilities of American citizenship.” Providing a foundation for understanding self-government and major public issues, Boys’ State attempts to drive home the ideals and processes of democracy. Union Catholic chose these students based on their school involvement, leadership qualities, and character. They were interviewed and accepted as delegates by American Legion Post #3 in Westfield.
