Front Door Smashed, Scotch Plains Business Broken Into: Police

Car burglary, fraud and multiple arrests were also reported, according to the Scotch Plains Police blotter.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — A Scotch Plains business was reportedly broken into recently, police report.

On May 7, Scotch Plains Officers responded to the Wine Warehouse located at 1700 E. Second St. on an activated alarm.

Upon arrival they found the front door glass smashed. The building was cleared with no suspects found on scene, police report.

The detective bureau responded to process the scene. This remains under investigation.

On May 8: A business on Jerusalem Road reported a fraud. Money was transferred from a business account without authorization. This remains under investigation.

On May 8: Nelson Reyes, 39, of Bronx, New York was arrested and charged with possession of heroin, possession of drug paraphernalia, hindering apprehension and fraud. Officers responded to Santander located at 2253 North Ave. on a report of a suspicious man attempting to cash a fraudulent check. Detective Lt. Sellinger, Officer Rites and Officer Serafin responded and made the arrest.

On May 8: The theft of a cell phone was reported at the Scotchwood Diner located at 1928 Rt. 22. This remains under investigation.

On May 10: A resident on Tillinghast Turn reported a fraud. The victim’s credit card was used to make an online purchase without authorization.

On May 10: Ivana M. Hercules-Canales, 19, of Plainfield was arrested on an outstanding warrant
out of Westfield during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Gerard Rites. Hercules-Canales was transported to headquarters and processed.

On May 11: Jonathan L. Lemaine, 33, of Plainfield was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of
Montclair during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Officer Damian Serafin. Lemaine was transported to headquarters and processed.

On May 11: Lauren A. Crawford, 50, of Plainfield was arrested on an outstanding warrant out of
Piscataway during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Andrew Gitto. Crawford was transported to headquarters and processed.

On May 13: A resident on Blue Ridge Circle reported a motor vehicle burglary, which occurred during the overnight hours. This remains under investigation.

On May 14: Mario A. Orellana, 31, of Spring Valley New York was arrested for hindering apprehension and obstruction of justice during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Mike Smolinski. Orellana was transported to headquarters and processed.
