FSPY gymnasts compete in first meet of the season

Team members are off to a great start as they place in numerous categories

​The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA​ A & B Divisions Gymnastics Teams started their competitive season with their first away meet at the Madison Area YMCA.

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) A & B Divisions Gymnastics Teams have started their competitive season with their first away meet at the Madison Area YMCA on January 12.

FSPY’s A Division Team competes USAG Level 8 and was represented by Jillian Miele. She placed 2nd on Vault and 4th in the All-Around and Bars.

The B Division Gymnastics Team is separated into two different levels, USAG Levels 6 and 7. Representing level 7 was Alana Beardsley, Elizabeth Parvin and Alice Ping. Parvin placed 1st on Vault and 3rd on Floor in her age group.

Level 6 of the B Division was represented by 9 FSPY gymnasts in four different age groups. Agnes Yee placed 1st on Vault, 4th on Balance Beam and All-Around and 6th on Bars and Floor in the 11 and under age group. Vivian Yu placed 6th All-Around. Sophia Monteith, Aiden Steinwald and Diane Morrow also represented this age group.

Xing Liao represented the team in the 12-year-old age group.

Eva Pereira placed 1st on Balance Beam, 2nd on Vault and 6th on Floor and All-Around in the 14-year-old age group. Sarah Sicoli placed 5th on Balance Beam.

Jessica Glander went home with a second-place finish on Vault in the 15 and over age group.

YMCA National Gymnastics Championships will be taking place in Long Beach, California June 23-27, 2020. Congratulations to all our National qualifiers: Jillian Miele, Elizabeth Parvin, Sarah Sicoli, Eva Pereira, Alice Ping, Sophia Monteith, Aiden Steinwald, Vivian Yu, Agnes Yee and Xing Liao.

Gymnastics classes offered at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA include parent-toddler, preschool and school-age classes. They are offered Monday through Saturday. This is a great time to begin taking gymnastics at the YMCA! Registration is also open for summer school-age gymnastics camps. The Y offers dance and sports classes and camps as well.
