FSPY gymnasts have first meet of the season

The meet was held January 29 at the Madison Area YMCA

Members of the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Gymnastics Team are excited to be back competing at meets this year.

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA Gymnastics Teams participated in their first meet since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic and are excited to begin their competitive season. The meet was held at the Madison Area YMCA on January 29, 2023.

The A Division Team competes USAG Level 8 and was represented by Jillian Miele. She placed 4th placed in All Around with a score of 32.15.

The B Division Gymnastics Team is separated into two different levels, USAG Levels 6 and 7. Representing level 7 was Alana Beardsley, Eva Pereira and Sarah Sicoli. Eva placed 1st on Vault and 4th on Bars. Sarah and Alana tied for 3rd place on Vault. Sarah placed 2nd on Bars, and Alana Placed 4th on Beam.

Level 6 of the B Division was represented by two Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA gymnasts. Milan Fevrier received 1st place in all events, winning the All Around for her 11-year-old age group, with a score of 34.30. Jessica Glander placed 1st on Vault and 2nd on Beam, Floor and Bars for the 14-years+ age group.

Representing the Excel Gold Team and making their gymnastics team debut are: Ryley Mathisen, Emma Papernik, Lily Rykus, Avery Salinger and Mia Sheier. Emma received 1st place for uneven Bars and 4th place on floor exercise.

YMCA National Gymnastics Championships will be taking place in Cincinnati, Ohio from June 21-25. Congratulations to all our National qualifiers: Alana Beardsley, Milan Fevrier, Jessica Glander, Jillian Miele, Eva Pereira, & Sarah Sicoli.

Gymnastics classes at the YMCA are offered for kids ages 3 and up. The Y also offers dance and sports classes for toddlers through teens. Registration for Spring programs will begin February 13 at 9:00am and is open to active FSPY members. Registration is also open for summer school-age gymnastics and other enrichment programs.
