FSPY Swim Team Shines at Back-to-Back Invitational Weekends

It was a busy start to December for the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) swim team with back-to-back invitational meets. Swimmers from all age groups headed to the Nassau County Aquatic Center in East Meadow, NY on December 8-10 for the 2023 Holiday Invitational co-hosted by the Cross Island YMCA (CIY) and Flushing YMCA (FLY). FSPY competed against 12 other YMCA teams from the tri-state area and took first place overall, with the Boys team placing 2nd and the Girls team taking 1st place.

Following this successful weekend, over 40 of FSPY’s 13-and-over swimmers
represented the team in the EEX Holiday Classic XXXVI held at the Sonny A.
Werblin Recreation Center in Piscataway, NJ on December 15-17. This
annual 3-day meet is hosted by the Eastern Express Swim Team (EEX) and welcomes
swimmers with qualifying times from 25 teams across New Jersey.

Swimmers saw impressive swims, earning points for the team, as well as many
personal best times. Congratulations to senior swimmer Billie
Sherratt who achieved a new team and meet record of 1:59.02 in the 200
Fly at Holiday Classic.

Congratulations to the following swimmers who swam personal bests and earned
their first Short Course National YMCA Championship eligibility cuts during
these two swim weekends: Normandie Beversluis (200 Free), Michael Fisher (100 Free), Phoebe Kaplan (200 Fly), Harrison McClure (500 Free), Braden Michaels (50 Free), Janice Yip (100 Fly) and Chloe Yu (100 Fly).

Several FSPY swimmers also took home the High Point Awards for their age groups at the Holiday Invitational. Congratulations to the following high point winners:
