FSPY Swimmers Have Successful Weekend at NJ YMCA State Championships
There were a multitude of personal bests, broken records and National Championship qualifying times
Fifty-eight of Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY)’s 13 years and older swimmers represented the team at the NJ YMCA State Championships. The swim meet took place at Franklin & Marshall College from March 9-12. After a tiring three-and-a-half days of fast swimming, the team persevered to achieve 3rd place overall.
A multitude of personal bests, broken records, and National Championship qualifying times highlighted a weekend of success. The FSPY boys took second place out of the 20 teams that competed, with the FSPY girls taking fourth.
Clare Logan set new team records in the 100 Back (52.99) and 200 Back (1:58.32). Billie Sherratt broke the FSPY 200 Fly record with a 2:01.13. Roman Jones set a new Meet Record for the 50 Free in 20.32.

The following two relays also broke records with extremely fast swims:
- Boys 13/14 200 Medley Relay (Kyle Dripchak, Dylan Lagrimas, Braden Michaels, Aaron Frank) broke the team record with a 1:40.14.
- Girls Open 200 Medley Relay (Logan, Emily Constable, Sherratt, Catherine Ritter) broke the Meet and Pool Records with a 1:42.89.

It was a fifth-place finish for the 13-14 Girls 200 Free Relay (Beversluis, Kou, Jiang, DeGennaro) and a fourth-place finish for the 13-14 Girls 200 Medley Relay (Jiang, DeGennaro, Kou, Beversluis).
FSPY took second in the 13-14 Boys 200 Free Relay (Dripchak, Lagrimas, Michaels, A. Frank) before winning the 13-14 Boys 200 Medley Relay (Dripchak, Lagrimas, Michaels, A. Frank).
The team took second-place in the 15-18 Girls 200 Free Relay (Sherratt, Logan, Constable, Ritter) and fifth-place in the 15-18 Girls 400 Free Relay (Sherratt, Logan, Kim, Ritter). The 15-18 Girls team (Logan, Constable, Sherratt, Ritter) then took the State Championship in both the 15-18 Girls 400 Medley Relay and the 15-18 200 Medley Relay.
The FSPY 15-18 boys swept all four relays, winning the 15-18 Boys 200 Free Relay (B. Frank, Jones, Waibel, Kavanagh), the 15-18 Boys 400 Free Relay (Waibel, Jones, McGeehan, Kavanagh), the 15-18 Boys 400 Medley Relay (Jones, McGeehan, Kavanagh, Waibel), and the 15-18 Boys 200 Medley Relay (Jones, McGeehan, Kavanagh, Waibel).
Congratulations to all FSPY State qualifiers for a great meet! Next, the FSPY National Team will compete at the YMCA Short Course National Championships in Greensboro, North Carolina, from April 3-7.
