The Great American Read at the Scotch Plains Public Library

All you need to know to celebrate The Great American Read on PBS and with fellow booklovers at the Scotch Plains Public Library

The Great American Read is now hitting its stride, both on PBS and at the Scotch Plains Public Library. PBS will air new episodes about The Great American Read (TGAR) every Tuesday at 8pm through October 23. The Library, one of 50 public libraries nationwide to receive a grant from PBS and the American Library Association, has planned several programs.

Friday Films at Noon in September and October will be based on TGAR titles.

The Library will host discussions about TGAR episodes on Friday, September 21 at 10am; Thursday, September 27 at 7pm; Wednesday, October 3 at 6:30pm; Thursday, October 11 at 7pm; Thursday, October 18 at 10am, and Thursday, October 25 at 7pm.

If you’ve ever wondered about what goes in to creating book cover art, NJCU illustrators Stephen Gardner, Dennis Dittrich, and ’18 alumna Mo Buckey will discuss the history and process of book cover design on Thursday, October 18 at 7pm.

On Monday, November 5 at 7pm, bring your book smarts for TGAR Trivia Night.

The series wraps up on Wednesday, November 28 at 6:30pm with Dr. Laura Nicosia of Montclair State University, discussing How We See Ourselves in What We Read. This program is funded by the New Jersey Council for the Humanities.

Library users can submit ballots to help choose the Great Scotch Plains Read and join fellow booklovers online in the Scotch Plains Public Library’s Great American Read group on Facebook.
