Lenten projects
As we progress through the season of Lent, the children of SBA have been preparing their hearts for Jesus’ resurrection. Our middle school students have been experiencing the Stations of the Cross every week and the students in grades three through eight will participate in the Sacrament of Reconciliation prior to the Easter recess. In addition to the traditional Lenten sacrifice, such as video games, our students have also worked on service projects such as the 7th grade Clothing Drive, and have worked hard to give of themselves at home.

The teachers of our younger students have been working to ensure that our younger students understand the meaning of Lent. Mrs. Diane Schweitzer’s first grade students received a booklet in which the children are recording at least one good deed they do every day. In their classroom, they color a chart-like stained glass window for each of their good deeds. Mrs. Patricia Delaney’s second grade students have made decorative crosses and attached the acts of kindness or prayers they offer during Lent. The students have decorated a Stations of the Cross booklet which they will use as a guide when they visit the church to experience the Stations.

Mrs. Maryellen Lamb’s fourth graders have created Stations of the Cross booklets, and each day they focus on a different aspect of Lent, such as prayer, sacrifice, and faith. Mrs. Lynda England has challenged our fifth grade students to come up with a list of 40 sacrifices and good deeds, one for each day of Lent. Every morning, the students use a 40-step worksheet to color a step along their Lenten pathway. The pathways are displayed in the classroom so they can see the progression of their journey.
Many of these Lenten projects are posted in the Academy’s hallways. We hope they inspire you!
