Man Charged For Having Weapon On NJ Transit Bus In Scotch Plains

A BMW left unlocked and running at an Exxon in Scotch Plains was also stolen recently, according to the Scotch Plains Police blotter.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — A man was charged after he had a weapon on a New Jersey Transit bus in Scotch Plains, police said.

On Oct. 8, Erick Caceres, 33, of Elizabeth, was arrested for unlawful possession of a weapon during a disturbance call aboard an NJ transit bus by Patrolman Damian Serafin, said police.

Caceres was taken to headquarters and processed.

On Oct. 5: A resident on Katherine Street reported a burglary to their unlocked vehicle which occurred during the overnight hours. Several items were stolen. A neighbor's vehicle which was also unlocked was entered but nothing was stolen.

On Oct. 5: Officers responded to the Exxon station at 2591 Route 22 on a report of a stolen vehicle. Upon arrival they spoke with the owner who stated that they left their 2021 BMW X5 unlocked and running while they went inside the store. They saw four people wearing masks and hoodies pull up in a black Range Rover. Two of them entered the BMW and both vehicles fled on Route 22 westbound. The BMW was entered stolen and was recovered abandoned in Newark the next day.

On Oct. 5: A resident on Country Club Lane reported a fraud. The victim was contacted by someone claiming to be from the IRS. They were told they owed a large amount of money and instructed to deposit money into a specific bank account. Once that was completed they were instructed to make another deposit but a bank teller realized what was happening and advised them that this was a scam.

On Oct. 6: A resident on Westfield Avenue reported fraudulent activity on a credit account.

On Oct. 7: A resident on Ramapo Way reported that someone fraudulently applied for unemployment benefits in their name.

On Oct. 7: A resident on Algonquin Drive reported that someone fraudulently applied for a college loan in their name.

On Oct. 10: Tyree S. Seegers, 31, of Garfield was arrested for driving under the influence during a
single-car accident investigation conducted by Patrolman Matt Lavery. No injuries reported. Seegers was taken to headquarters and processed.

On Oct. 11: Angel L. Vazquez-Sanchez, 33, of Linden was arrested on an active warrant out of
Elizabeth during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Zack Vonlangen. Vazquez-Sanchez was taken to headquarters and processed.
