Man Fatally Hit By Car While Crossing Rt. 22 In North Plainfield
A North Plainfield man who was crossing Route 22 was hit and killed by a car on Saturday night, police said.

NORTH PLAINFIELD, NJ — A North Plainfield man who was crossing Route 22 was hit and killed by a car on Saturday night.
At around 9:50 p.m., Franklin Caiza, 33, of North Plainfield, was walking across the Route 22 at the intersection for West End Avenue when he was struck by a 2014 Hino delivery/box truck driving east, North Plainfield Police Chief William Parenti said.
Police found Caiza on the highway with fatal injuries, Parenti said. The North Plainfield Fire Department and JFK Paramedics responded.

The vehicle was driven by Joseph F. Mallare, 54, of Elizabeth. It is unclear is any summonses or charges were issued.
No summonses were issued to the driver.

"It appears that the pedestrian was crossing against the traffic signal," police said.
The investigation is still active and on-going by the North Plainfield Police Department, in conjunction with the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Collision Analysis Reconstruction Team, Parenti said.
