Man Tries To Escape On Stolen Bike After Home Burglary: Police
A Plainfield man was arrested by Scotch Plains Police following the home burglary and foot chase, police report.
SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — A man who tried to escape from police on a stolen bike following an attempted home burglary in Scotch Plains was arrested, police report.
The attempted burglary was reported at a home on Sleepy Hollow Lane on March 24 at 8:15 a.m., Scotch Plains Police said.
The suspect, later identified as William B. Green, 56, of Plainfield, had already fled the scene when police arrived, police report.

A description was sent out and Scotch Plains Police Officer Andrew Gitto found Green on Rahway Road leaving the area on a bicycle, police report.
Green refused to stop and was arrested after a foot chase with police, police report.

The bike that Green was riding was found to have been stolen from a different home on Sleepy Hollow Lane. The detective bureau responded and processed several different crime scenes, police report.
Green was transported to headquarters for processing. The exact charges were not released.
Members of the Plainfield Police Division helped Scotch Plains during the incident.
