May Movies & Showtimes at the Scotch Plains Public Library

May’s “Friday Films” will feature movies inspired by our Created Equal series. Each film will begin at NOON.

Friday, May 1: The Help (PG-13, 146 min)
After a white woman graduates from college in the 1960s, she returns to her home in Jackson, Mississippi and begins her writing career by interviewing the African-American servants in her neighborhood and sharing their stories with the public.

Friday, May 8: Amazing Grace (PG, 118 min)
Based on the life of William Wilberforce, his passion, and perseverance to pass a law ending the slave trade in the late 18th and the people, including his minister, who pushed him to pursue it to the end.

Friday, May 15: Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner (NR, 108 min)
When the daughter of a white liberal newspaper publisher and the son of a black retired postal worker want to get married, they meet with opposition from both their families.

Friday, May 22: To Kill a Mockingbird (NR, 129 min)
Told through the eyes of “Scout,” a feisty six-year-old tomboy To Kill A Mockingbird carries us on an odyssey through the fires of prejudice and injustice in 1932 Alabama.

Friday, May 29: Selma (PG-13, 128 min)
Selma chronicles the tumultuous three-month period in 1965, when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. led a dangerous campaign to secure equal voting rights in the face of violent opposition.
