Mental health is how we think, feel and act. At the Y, we recognize that we all have mental health, and mental health is an important part of our overall health and social-emotional well-being, as well as a core component of our identity.

The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA is partnering with Resolve to offer a series of mental health workshops in May. Founded in 1974, Resolve Community Counseling is a private, nonprofit mental health agency in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, dedicated to providing quality and affordable counseling and psychoeducational services to children, adolescents and adults, individuals and families.

This will be an enriching workshop aimed at providing valuable tools for stress management in your daily life.

Friday programs are led by Katelyn Wells a Licensed Associate Marriage and Family Therapist at Resolve Community Counseling Center in Scotch Plains. She believes therapy goes beyond the individual and values community and the roots we come from.

Saturday Programs 10-11am:

May 11: The Changing Adolescent: There are many physical, sexual, cognitive, emotional, and social changes going on during the time of adolescence. This workshop will look at some of the changes occurring at this time, the impact on the family, and the important role the adolescent’s quest for their own identity plays. Most importantly we will also discuss some tips for navigating this period of their lives.

May 18: Positive Parenting: The way you parent can have a significant influence on the behaviors and mental health of your children. This workshop will examine various parenting styles, and the potential impact on children/adolescent outcomes. Which parenting style produces children with the best outcomes? Let’s find out! We will also look at a parenting style questionnaire so you may see what your style is and decide if you want to make some changes.
