Here are a few program highlights from the upcoming session:
Swim Lessons: This Fall, the Y is increasing its swim lessons offerings with classes for infants through adults. There are classes for beginner through more advanced swimmers and the Y recommends that those new to swim lessons, or who haven’t taken them recently, sign up for a swim evaluation prior to registering for lessons. This will help ensure that children are in the right class for their level.

Y’s Way to Wellness: This program is free with membership and open to FSPY members ages 18 and over. An 8-week program, it’s geared toward individuals who would like some guidance, accountability and inspiration for getting back into a fitness program. It introduces participants to the Y’s Wellness Center equipment, a few pieces each week based on their individual needs.
Youth Gymnastics: Gymnastics classes for toddlers through teens are coming back to the Fanwood-Scotch Plains Y this Fall! Gymnastics is a fun way for a child to develop motor skills, self-esteem, self-discipline and coordination. Providing the foundation for fitness and the fundamentals of movement, gymnastics prepares a child for participation in all sports and provides lifelong benefits to its participants.
Youth Sports: A number of the Y’s fantastic and fun sports programs are also making a comeback. For preschoolers, the Y is offering Preschool Sports Sampler and Gym Ninja; for school aged kids, there’s Ninja Warrior, Youth Sports Sampler, Youth Tae Kwon Do and Middle School Cross Country. High Schoolers can take part in the Y’s co-ed volleyball pick-up games. There’s sports of all sorts and something for everyone at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA!
Kids & Middle School Night Out: The Fanwood-Scotch Plains Y is also bringing back these two specialty youth programs open to members of the YMCA. Kids Night Out is for children in kindergarten through 4th grade. Parents get the opportunity to go out without the kids while they’re having a blast at the Y with a movie, pizza and free swim. Middle School Night Out is specifically tailored for grades 5-8 and revolves around socializing with friends and being active at the Y.
Preschool Programs: For kids ages 3-5, the Y offers preschool enrichment programs throughout the year to help them learn and thrive. This Fall, offerings include: “Cooking with Literature,” a class where children will learn how to make healthy treats and snacks while developing reading, math and social skills, and “Preschool Science – World of Wonders and Discovery,” in which preschoolers’ curiosity is brought out through a variety of science projects.
Vacation Full Days: When school’s out, the Y is in. The Vacation Full Days program is open to active FSPY members in grades kindergarten through 5 on most days that the Scotch Plains-Fanwood Public Schools are closed for the holidays or vacation days. The program runs from 7:00am-6:30pm at the main Y building and each day has its own theme. Registration for this program is currently open.
We can’t wait to see you at the Y this fall!
