Get to know Nancy Norris-Bauer. She is running in the upcoming Board of Education election being held on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ —The race for the Scotch Plains seats is uncontested with Stephanie Suriani and Nancy Norris-Bauer both running for the two, three-year Scotch Plains seats in the election being held on Tuesday, Nov. 5.
The race in Fanwood, on the other hand, is contested with Scott Brelinsky and Amy Winkler both running for the one, three-year Fanwood seat.
Here is a look at who Norris-Bauer is and why she is running. Candidates were asked to answer the same questions and each candidate profile will be posted on Patch's site as it gets closer to the election.

Describe yourself:
I am a Scotch plains resident for 28 years. I am educator who began as a kindergarten teacher, directed a health education museum and currently work in the College of Education at William Paterson University. My bachelors and masters are from Florida State University.

Why are you running for school board?
I am running because I am committed to ensuring the children in our community receive the best educational experiences possible.
Why do you feel you are qualified for this position?
I have served on the BOE for a number of years on a variety of committees helping to influence a number of changes. I also believe that having an educator on the BOE brings a valuable perspective.
What are some issues you would like to address if elected?
I want to see the goals in our current strategic plan accomplished including Arts Integration, expanded partnerships and communications. I am an advocate for student voice and choice in learning.
