Registration is now open for After School Care at the Y!

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ – (February 20, 2024) The Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) will be offering a school age after care program at the Y facility located at 1340 Martine Avenue for the 2024-2025 school year.

The After School Care program is open to students entering kindergarten through 4th grade in the Scotch Plains-Fanwood School District. The Y’s after school program provides a safe, enriching and fun environment for kids to enjoy when the school day ends.

“We are pleased to continue to support working families in our community with a high-quality after school program at the Y,” said Katie Lizer, School Age Child Care and Camp Director. “We offer a program that nurtures the whole child with a blend of academic enrichment, play, and social-emotional learning.”

Active FSPY members can register for the Y’s After School Care program online under “Daxko Program Registration.” New members can join online or in person at the FSPY Welcome Center before registering for after care. For the 2024-2025 school year, the Y will be offering:

· Two, three and five day options until 6:30pm

· A five-day partial care option until 4:30pm.

· Bussing from the child’s elementary school to the Y.

· Weekly enrichment options that include science projects, arts and crafts, and recess games.

· Once a month open swim/water safety instruction will be offered at no extra cost to children enrolled in the after school program.

· Monthly Fun Snack Fridays, which include hands-on cooking projects.

During the school year, children also can participate in Y programs for an additional fee and the Y staff will drop off and pick up children from class during after care hours. Some of the Y youth programs include swim lessons, gymnastics, dance, art, cooking and sports.

The Y’s After School Care program is much more than a safe place to hang out with friends when school’s out. The Y provides a fun and comprehensive program that incorporates nine core content areas: Arts & Humanities, Service Learning, Character Development, Health, Wellness & Fitness, Homework Support, Literacy, Science & Technology, Service Learning, Social Competence and Conflict Resolution.
