Run to the Library: ScotLib to Spotlight Running & Healthy Eating
In anticipation of Patrick's Downtown Race to Summer, the Scotch Plains Library will host a Fueling with Food and Running with the Kenyans.

In anticipation of Patrick’s Downtown Race to Summer 5k on Wednesday, June 27, the Scotch Plains Public Library will host a Fueling with Food workshop and Running with the Kenyans book club to inspire and encourage local runners.
On Saturday, June 23 from 2:00 pm-3:30 pm, learn some great ways to fuel exercise and sports activities with healthy food. Award-winning baker Jennifer Bridgeman will cover basic nutrition for exercise and will recommend food combinations and when to consume them for optimum energy. Fueling with Food will also include a demonstration of two recipes: energy balls and chia pudding. Samples and recipes will be provided to those attending. This program is for adults (18 years and older). Advanced registration is required.
On Monday, June 25 at 7 pm, join Jennifer for a fun discussion of journalist Adharanand Finn’s Running with the Kenyans, a book that is “equal parts cultural examination, cult-of-running treatise, and poignant memoir.” Finn brought his family to Iten, the center of Kenya’s running culture. Six months of living and training with many of the runners brought him a unique insight into the factors behind Kenyan runners’ stunning successes. Samples of ugali, the maize porridge that is a staple of the Kenyan diet, will also be provided. Copies of the book can be picked up at the library. Advanced registration is required.
