Scotch Plains Among 'Most Challenging' High Schools In N.J., According To The Washington Post

SCOTCH PLAINS NJ — A Scotch Plains school has been named the Most Challenging High Schools in the U.S. by the Washington Post and also came in among the top 25 most challenging schools in New Jersey.

The Academy for Information Technology in Scotch Plains came in at number 602 in the U.S. and 20 in New Jersey.

Other Scotch Plains schools also made the U.S. list. Academy for Allied Health Science came in at number 1,363 in the U.S. and 63 in New Jersey while Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School came in at 1,425 in the U.S. and 69 in New Jersey.

The Washington Post ranks schools through an index formula that’s a simple ratio: the number of Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate and Advanced International Certificate of Education tests given at a school each year, divided by the number of seniors who graduated that year, according to the Washington Post.

A ratio of 1.000 means the school had as many tests as graduates.

Academy for Information Technology had a ratio of 3.277, Academy for Allied Health Science had a ratio of 1.985 and Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School had a ratio of 1.920.
