Scotch Plains, Fanwood Firefighters Battle 2 Blazes In 5 Days
Scotch Plains and Fanwood firefighters responded to 2 house fires on Tuesday and Friday nights.

SCOTCH PLAINS/FANWOOD, NJ — Scotch Plains and Fanwood firefighters have battled two blazes in five days in both boroughs.
The most recent was reported at 5:08 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 13 at a home at 209 Terrill Road in Fanwood.
The fire started in the kitchen when a teenage boy was home, he was able to escape, Fanwood Fire Chief John Piccola said.

The teenager was transported to an area hospital by Fanwood Rescue Squad for observation.
Firefighters were able to get the fire under control around 5:30 p.m., Piccola said.

The home was deemed unlivable and the residents went to stay with family and friends.
Plainfield, Cranford and Summit departments also responded to offer cover support.
Another first alarm fire was reported on Friday, Nov. 9 at around 4:15 p.m. to a home on the south side of Scotch Plains in the 100 block of Washington Avenue.
Scotch Plains Patrolman Joe Mirabile responded and found a heavy smoke condition in the back of the home and saw flames under the roof of a small entrance way, according to police.
All residents were able to safely get out of the home.
The Scotch Plains Fire Department responded and extinguished the fire. Union County EMS, Union County HazMat and the Fanwood Fire Department also responded. No injuries were reported, police reported.
