Scotch Plains-Fanwood Schools Switching to Half-Day Tuesday Due To Extreme Heat

The district may make a similar call for Wednesday, May 20, depending on whether the heat persists.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ - Scotch Plains-Fanwood K-8 students will follow a single-session schedule Tuesday, as the district responds to forecasted extreme heat, according to an announcement from school officials.

SPF High School will remain on a regular full-day schedule with lunch served as usual. Lunch will not be served at elementary and middle schools Tuesday.

Right At School aftercare will continue for enrolled students, and lunch will be available for those participants.

Families should check their email for dismissal times for K-8 buildings.

The district said a similar schedule change for Wednesday, May 20, may be made depending on the consistency of the weather forecast.

"We understand that the extreme heat and resulting schedule changes can be disruptive for your families, and we appreciate your flexibility and patience as we prioritize the safety and well-being of our staff and students," officials said in a statement.
