Scotch Plains Mayor's 0.5k Race Set For Aug. 18

The event will include free swag and ice cream and beer for runners, food trucks, dance party and children's activities.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Lace up your shoes and head over to Scotch Plains to race in the "Anti-5K." Scotch Plains Mayor Al Smith will host the annual 0.5k Race on Sunday, Aug. 18.

It will be held in Alan Augustine Green at 430 Park Ave.

The event will include free swag and ice cream and beer for runners, food trucks, dance party and children's activities.

Kids will have their own race, Child's Play Challenge Course, and also have children's activities.

The race will go in a 547 yard circle with racers getting a pint of beer or a cup of ice cream at the finish line.

Check-in begins at 1 p.m. followed by an official kick off at 2 p.m. beginning with a stretching routine led by Tony Bianchino, member of the Mayor’s Wellness Program and owner of Out Run Your Fork.

Runner registration is $15 for children ages 5-14 and $25 for ages 15 and older.

All proceeds go to support METAvivors of NJ - chapter of the national nonprofit METAvivor. A support organization who assist those with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer.
