Scotch Plains Woman Injured, Plainfield Man Dead After Shooting
A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information related to the Plainfield shooting early Sunday morning.

PLAINFIELD, NJ — A Plainfield man was killed and a Scotch Plains woman is in critical condition following a shooting early Sunday morning.
Michael Welsh, 34, of Plainfield was identified as the dead victim, acting Union County Prosecutor Michael A. Monahan announced.
Just before 1 a.m. on Sunday, Plainfield Police responded to the area of New and West 5th streets after a ShotSpotter reported a gunshot. Police found Welsh and the Scotch Plains woman suffering from gunshot wounds, Monahan said.

Welsh was rushed to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, where he was pronounced dead about one hour later.
The 25-year-old Scotch Plains resident's identity was not released. She remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The shooting remains under active joint investigation by the Union County Homicide Task Force, Plainfield Police Division, Union County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Unit, and Union County Police Department Ballistics Unit.
