September Book Clubs at the Scotch Plains Public Library
On Sept 11, the Evening Book Club will discuss Miss Jane; on Sept 19, the Afternoon Book Club will discuss The Summer Before the War.

On Monday, September 11 at 7:00 PM, the Evening Book Club will be meeting to discuss Miss Jane by Brad Watson. Watson explores the life of Miss Jane Chisolm, born in rural, early-twentieth-century Mississippi with a birth defect that would stand in the way of the central “uses” for a woman in that time and place. Miss Jane was longlisted for the National Book Award for Fiction.
On Tuesday, September 19 at 1:00 PM, the Afternoon Book Club will be meeting to discuss The Summer Before the War by Helen Simonson. Fans of Simonson’s Major Pettigrew’s Last Stand have reason to rejoice. She has created another engaging novel full of winsome characters, this time set during the summer before the outbreak of World War I. Follow the story of headstrong, independent Beatrice Nash and kind but stuffy surgeon-in-training Hugh Grange along with his formidable Aunt Agatha.
Scotlib’s book clubs are free and open to interested members of the public.
