Spring Fun!
This spring, the Academy’s youngest students are very busy learning about spring and new life. The PreK and Kindergarten students are, once again, hosting chicken eggs and nurturing those eggs by turning them in their incubator each day. The children will wait patiently for the chicks to push through their shells and watch as they grow strong enough to be put into their brooder box. Next, they will teach the newly hatched chicks how to eat and drink and watch them interact with their brothers and sisters. All of the children will help care for the eggs and chicks, but the PreK classroom will be the “home base.” If you walk in the hallway, you may hear the baby chicks “peeping” as they hatch!

Our first grade students are learning about new life by raising butterflies as they study the life cycle of a butterfly in science class. The first graders are watching their tiny caterpillars grow, and will observe them as they spin a chrysalis and eventually emerge as butterflies. The children will care for the butterflies and then release them in the St. Joseph Prayer Garden. Recently, the first graders also planted and nurtured flower seeds, watched them grow, and then gave them to their moms for Mother’s Day. To connect science lessons with the students’ faith, Sr. Maureen will soon be speaking with the students about holy water and how it brings new life.

Over 40 of our students and their moms recently enjoyed the first annual Mother-Daughter Tea hosted by the Home School Association and event coordinator Priscilla Negron, a parent volunteer. The school gym was transformed with colorful pom-poms on the walls, pastel tablecloths, and flower centerpieces and the ladies were served tea, finger sandwiches, scones, and a variety of sweets. All of the girls had a lovely time socializing with their friends and spending time together.
