Stolen Car, Fraud, Oven Fire Reported In Scotch Plains

Scotch Plains Police released the latest arrests and incidents over the past week.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — A stolen car, fraud, over fire and more were reported in the latest Scotch Plains Police blotter.

On Sept. 15: A resident on Jenna Court reported someone fraudulently opened credit accounts in their name. Under investigation.

On Sept. 15: A resident on Elm Court reported someone attempted to fraudulently open cell provider accounts in their name. Under investigation.

On Sept. 16: A resident on Whittier Avenue reported fraudulent transactions on credit accounts stemming from a previous data breach. Under investigation.

On Sept. 16: An 18-year-old man from Hillside was arrested for possession of marijuana and drug
paraphernalia during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Andrew Gitto. He was taken to headquarters and processed.

On Sept. 17: Officers responded to a residence in the 2300 block of North Ave. on a reported oven fire. The Fanwood Fire Department responded and the fire was brought under control. No injuries reported.

On Sept. 18: A resident in the 2300 block of Whittier Ave. reported their 2018 Hyundai Sonata stolen during the overnight hours. The vehicle was recovered in Millburn the next morning. Under investigation.

On Sept. 18: A resident on Swans Mill Lane reported unauthorized transactions on a credit card. Under investigation.

On Sept. 19: Clarissa E. Vargas, 26, of Union was arrested on an active warrant out of Elizabeth
during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Mike Baltazar. Vargas was taken to headquarters and processed.

On Sept. 20: A 36-year-old man from Plainfield was arrested for driving under the influence and
possession of marijuana during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Mike Baltazar. He was taken to headquarters and processed.

On Sept. 20: A resident on Rahway Road reported an illegal dumping. Under investigation.

On Sept. 21: Lavon L. Lawrence, 29, of Richmond, Va. was arrested for possession of MDMA(Ecstasy) during a motor vehicle stop conducted by Patrolman Mike Baltazar. Lawrence was taken to headquarters and processed.
