Summer’s Cooler at the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA

Registration for the Y's summer programs begins June 12 at 9:00am

Don’t let your health and fitness routine suffer a setback over the summer. Join the Fanwood-Scotch Plains YMCA (FSPY) for programs and classes for youth, teens and adults focused on helping them build skills, grow stronger and have fun.

The Y’s Summer Program Session runs from June 26-August 27, 2023. Program registration for all summer programs begins Monday, June 12 at 9:00am and is open to active FSPY members. The Y is currently undergoing an exciting building expansion project and programs and services will continue throughout construction. In addition to the session highlights below, the Y continues to offer a range of programs and services included with full membership such as: group exercise classes for all fitness levels and interests; lap swimming and water walking lanes; family swim; select adult sports programs; open gym; special events, and more. Plus, FSPY now has a virtual wellness platform that members can access anytime, anywhere!

Swim Lessons: Summer swim lesson registration is open to all new and returning FSPY swim lessons participants. The Y has classes for ages 6 months through adult, with beginner through more advanced levels. FSPY is also offering two sessions of swim lessons this summer: June 26-July 29 and July 31-August 26.

Youth Sports: Join the Y for weekly sports clinics this summer for kids ages 5-14! In a new format, each clinic runs Monday-Friday for 45 minutes each day. Clinics are divided by age group and include: Pickleball, Basketball, Y Sports Challenge and Ultimate Frisbee. Participate in one or more weeks, and build and hone your sports skills.

Youth Gymnastics: The Y’s gymnastics classes offer fun and exciting age-appropriate activities that develop gymnastics skills, refine gross motor movements, and improve strength, balance, coordination and decision-making skills. The Y offers several different levels and structures of classes this summer: preschool gymnastics classes will run in a 9-week session; progressive youth gymnastics classes will run in two shorter sessions from June 26-July 29 and July 31-August 26, as well as a year-round competitive gymnastics club for more advanced gymnasts.

Youth Dance: The Y’s dance program aims to enhance the creativity of each individual through movement. FSPY offers several classes for kids ages 3 and up, aimed at introducing them to different techniques, building or enhancing skills and having fun! This summer, offerings include Gymnastics/Dance Combo, Beginner Dance, Dance Combo, and a new Line Dancing 101 class for kids ages 7-14.

Health and Safety Classes: The Y continues to offer American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR and AED courses, which are open to FSPY members and members of the community. This summer, the Y is also offering an American Red Cross Babysitting Course for ages 11-15 to provide them with the knowledge and skills necessary to responsibly give care to children and infants.

Lifeguarding Courses: The Y also continues to offer a number of American Red Cross lifeguarding courses, including the Lifeguarding Certification Course, Lifeguarding Review Course, Lifeguard Instructor Review Course, and Lifeguard Instructor Certification Course.
