Union County Man Sentenced For Bribing Postal Workers To Steal Checks, Credit Cards

​Jabre Beauvoir, 23, of Elizabeth, will serve 17 months in prison, 3 years of supervised release and must pay restitution of $23,948.

UNION COUNTY, NJ — A Union County man was sentenced for offering bribes to U.S. Postal Service (USPS) employees to steal checkbooks and credit cards from the mail, said Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig.

Jabre Beauvoir, 23, of Elizabeth, previously pleaded guilty by videoconference before U.S. District Judge Kevin McNulty to an information charging him with one count of bribery. McNulty imposed a sentence of 17 months in prison by videoconference on Tuesday, Nov. 2.

In the summer of 2019, Beauvoir offered bribes to USPS employees to steal mail containing checkbooks and credit cards, according to documents filed in this case and statements made in court.

Beauvoir would offer $100 per package of checkbooks or credit cards to entice USPS employees to steal the mail and deliver it to him, according to reports.

Beauvoir and others would then pose as the actual account holders of the checkbooks or credit cards and fraudulently sign checks, activate the stolen credit cards, and fraudulently use them, according to reports.

In addition to the prison term, Beauvoir is sentenced to three years of supervised release and is ordered to pay restitution of $23,948.
