Video Shows Animal Lover Cop Saves Another Buck From Net

You might call him the animal whisperer as Scotch Plains local and Woodbridge Police Officer saves yet another deer - making 2 in 1 year.

WOODBRIDGE, NJ — For Scotch Plains local and Woodbridge police officer, it may feel like déjà vu or that he is starring in the movie "Groundhog Day." For the second time in one year, Tim Majek has saved yet another deer.

Majek, a 21-year veteran of the Woodbridge Police Department, was working inside headquarters last week when he heard a call come in reporting a deer stuck in a net.

"I chuckled at first and then drove down there since I was close by," Majek told Patch.

When he arrived he saw the deer caught up in a soccer net off Port Reading Avenue in Woodbridge. One of the other officers had already cut the net loose from the soccer goal, but the net was still entangled in its antlers.

"He was going to hurt himself because as he was running away he kept getting caught up in the net and falling down," Majek said.

When the buck fell down again, Majek got on top of him as animal control put a snare over his head.

"He was cool when I was cutting the net off his antlers," Majek said. "It was almost like he knew we were helping him."

Once the net was cut loose, the officers backed off and the buck "went on his merry way."

"That's two for two," Majek said.

This wasn't Majek's first deer rescue. In April, Majek chased down a buck and rescued it from being tangled in a netted fence near his home in Scotch Plains.

That rescue was done when he was off-duty and was also caught on video. WATCH HERE.

Even before the two bucks, Majek has been somewhat of an "animal whisperer."

A few years ago while on-duty Majek saved some ducks stuck in a sewer drain. And while off-duty he also saved a kitten stuck in a pipe outside his sister's house. That kitten is now his sister's cat.

"I'm an animal guy and like animals," Majek said.
