Wastin' Away Again in Oak Ridge Park

The Union County Summer Arts Festival concert series for 2010 concludes Wednesday evening with a performance by Jimmy and the Parrots. The concert, which is free, starts at 7:30 p.m. at Oak Ridge Park in Clark.

Jimmy and the Parrots is one of the most requested cover bands in the country, according to the press release distributed by the Union County Office of Public Information. And judging by the band's tour schedule, that's not an exaggeration. For more than nine years, the band has played in venues throughout the United States and Bahamas, performing popular songs by the Beach Boys, Paul Simon, Jerry Jeff Walker, Harry Belafonte and Bob Marley, plus some their own original tunes.

Lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets are encouraged for Wednesday's concert, the release said. But with New Jersey's open-container laws, consider leaving the booze in the blender and that frozen concoction at home. Refreshments and snacks will be available from vendors.
