Women's Eastern Amateur Golf Championships: Final Results
The three day tournament at Shackamaxon is hailed as a success, and a north Jersey native takes second-place.
Brittany Altomire led from start to finish and won the 99th annual Women's Eastern Amateur Golf Championships on Thursday at Shackamaxon Golf and Country Club in Scotch Plains.
Altomire shot 70-72-70 to win with a two-under par 212. She held the lead despite very windy conditions during yesterday's final round. She just completed her freshman year at the University of Virginia.
"To be at par or under on all three days was very, very impressive,'' said Carol Haas, a spokeswoman for the event. "When you talk about a Tiger Woods you expect it. But at an amateur level chances are you'll have a bad day.''

Second-place went to Marina Alex, a graduate of Wayne Valley High School in north Jersey. A member of the Vanderbilt University golf team, she shot 71-75-70.
In all, Haas said, the tournament was a success. "The golf course was in fantastic condition. It was really well manicured. We couldn't say enough about the hospitality."
