Woodpile Ignites, Scotch Plains Cops Use Garden Hose To Save Home

Numerous car burglaries were also reported in the area of Redwood Road and Concord Road, according to the Scotch Plains Police blotter.

SCOTCH PLAINS, NJ — Scotch Plains Police used a garden hose to keep a fire from destroying a township home on May 5.

Scotch Plains Patrolman Andrew Gitto and Patrolman Brian Regenthal went to a house on Canterbury Drive where smoke was being reported.

When they arrive they found a heavy smoke condition and flames in the backyard coming from a woodpile up against the house, police said.

The officers were able to keep the fire from spreading with the use of a garden hose until the Scotch Plains Fire Department arrived.

The situation was brought under control with minimal damage to the home. No injuries were reported, police said.

May 5: A resident on Country Club Blvd. reported the theft of three hubcaps from their vehicle. This is under investigation.

May 5: A resident on Country Club Lane reported the theft of a 2015 Yamaha FZO motorcycle. The theft occurred during the overnight hours. This is under investigation.

May 7: Paul D. Jiminez, 33, of Plainfield was arrested for assault. Also arrested was Harjit Singh, 23, of Richmond Hill, New York for assault and harassment. Both arrests were the result of an altercation at the Conoco gas station located at 1500 Front St. Arrested by Officer Damian Serafin and Officer Stephanie Roggina.

On May 8: A resident in the 2000 block of Church Avenue reported the theft of their 2008 Honda Ridgeline truck. The vehicle has been entered stolen. Numerous car burglaries were also reported in the area of Redwood Road and Concord Road. All incidents are under active investigation.

On May 8: A resident on Tussel Lane reported the theft of a Schwinn mountain bike. Theft ccurred during the overnight hours. This is under investigation.

On May 11: A resident on Rivervale Court reported the theft of a Specialized Crosstrail mountain bike. This is under investigation.

On May 11: A resident on Linden Lane reported an identity theft. This remains under investigation.

On May 11: A resident on Sky Top Drive reported a fraud. Someone used the victim’s information to file a fraudulent unemployment claim. This is under investigation.

On May 11: A resident on Country Club Lane reported a criminal mischief. Someone threw a rock and damaged the rear door to the home. This is under investigation.
