SECAUCUS, NJ — A man who had just been booked and processed for allegedly trying to break into cars parked at the Red Roof Inn tried to break into a separate car in the parking lot of Secaucus Police headquarters, just minutes after police let him out of custody.
This happened June 1: At 12:33 p.m. on that date, Secaucus Police say they were called to the Red Roof Inn parking lot for a report of an individual trying to get inside parked cars.
Brayan Perez, 24, of Paterson, was arrested and charged with Burglary [2C:18-2A(1)] and Theft [2C:20-3A]. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released from police custody.
However, just minutes after they released him, Secaucus Police officers said they watched Perez open the door of a car parked in the parking lot of police headquarters, in an attempt to get inside.
It was not a police car; it was a civilian vehicle.
Perez was additionally charged with Trespassing [2C:18-3A]. He was issued another summons to appear in town court and was released from police custody.
