July Nature Programs In Liberty State Park: All Free, Great For Kids

JERSEY CITY, NJ — Here are the July nature programs at Liberty State Park.

Registration is required for all programs unless specified. Space is limited. For more information or to register for a program, please contact the Nature Center at 201-915-3400 (when prompted, press 4 to be connected) or email LSPNatureCenter@dep.nj.gov.

Children must be accompanied by an adult. You may register a maximum of six participants per reservation. Pets are not permitted on programs unless they are service animals. Schedule is subject to change.

Sunday, July 12 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. Secrets of the Salt Marsh

Salt marshes are incredibly valuable habitats that have a variety of benefits. Find out what makes them so special during this unique walk. We will meet in Lot #1 located at 300 Morris Pesin Drive and then walk over to our marsh area. Please be advised there is over a mile and a half of walking involved. Be sure to dress to be outdoors and wear old shoes that can get wet or muddy. If it is a hot day, sunscreen, water and insect repellent are also recommended. Recommended for ages 8 & up.

Wednesday, July 15 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Nature Walk and Craft: Insects

There’s a lot to learn about the amazing world of insects that some of us don’t even notice! Join our Park Naturalist for a walk to look for some common garden insects and make an insect craft to take home with you! We will meet at the Nature Center located at 275 Freedom Way. Be sure to dress to be outdoors and wear shoes comfortable for walking. If it is a hot day, sunscreen and water are also recommended. All ages welcome.

Saturday, July 18 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Hike to Caven Point

Come on a leisurely hike to Caven Point Beach to explore the shoreline of Upper NY Bay with views of the Statue of Liberty and New York Skyline during low tide. We will meet in Lot #1 located at 300 Morris Pesin Drive and then walk over to our beach area. Please be advised there is over a mile and a half of walking involved. Dress to be outdoors, wear old shoes that can get wet or muddy, and bring binoculars if you have them. All ages welcome.

Sunday, July 19 10:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. Native Plant Walk

Discover the beauty and benefits of local plants with our Park Naturalists! Join us for an informative walk through our vibrant pollinator garden and walking trails. Learn simple tips to identify common native plants, fascinating facts about flowering natives and their role in the ecosystem, and uncover interesting past and present-day plant uses. We will meet at the Nature Center located at 275 Freedom Way. Please dress to be outdoors and wear shoes comfortable for walking. Recommended for ages 10 & up.

Wednesday, July 22 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Nature Walk and Craft: Beach

Come on out to Liberty State Park for a beach walk and scavenger hunt, and then make a beach craft to take home with you! We will meet at the Nature Center located at 275 Freedom Way. Please dress to be outdoors and wear old shoes that can get wet or muddy. If it is a hot day, sunscreen water, and insect repellent are also recommended. All ages welcome.

Wednesday, July 29 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Storytime and Craft

Beat the heat at Nature Center and hear a story about the different kinds of wildlife and habitats found in Liberty State Park. We'll then make a story-related craft to take home with you. We will meet at the Nature Center located at 275 Freedom Way. Recommended for ages 3 to 6.
