SECAUCUS, NJ — Dozens of apartments in Harmon Cove Towers have been without electricity since Saturday, according to Secaucus Mayor Mike Gonnelli.

The problem appears to be confined to Tower 3 at Harmon Cove Towers (there are three towers total in the apartment building; each tower has hundreds of apartments). And not every apartment in Tower 3 is out.

The electricity went out Saturday, according to the mayor and posts on Facebook from residents who live there. It has still not been restored as of Monday afternoon. While some apartments in the building have power, about 72 units total still have entirely no power as of Monday, said the mayor.

Other apartments in Tower 3 have electrical issues, such as some electric outlets in apartments don't work.

"It varies per unit," said Gonnelli.

The problem is not the fault of PSE&G, said the mayor. The issue is within the wiring of the building. Harmon Cove Towers is managed by First Service Residential property management company, and they did not return a call from Patch Monday afternoon.

A spokeswoman for PSE&G confirmed the problem at Harmon Cove is internal, calling it an "internal electrical issue."

"PSE&G is in communication with the customer regarding an internal electrical issue. We stand ready to provide support if needed once the customer’s required repairs have been completed," said Marijke Shugrue, a spokeswoman for PSE&G.

No other private homes or businesses lost power in this outage, said the mayor.

Residents in those 70+ apartments have been without electricity since Saturday, and that includes no air conditioning. Gonnelli said he's received "hundreds" of phone calls from residents who are concerned about their medication going bad, food spoiling and simply being uncomfortable on hot days and in muggy humidity.

The town of Secaucus is working with the Harmon Cove Towers management company to install generators. They will be installed Monday evening, said the mayor.
