SECAUCUS, NJ — At the Wednesday night Secaucus town council meeting, Mayor Michael Gonnelli and the council honored the town's local hospital, Hudson Regional Health.
The town honored the local hospital as it celebrates 50 years in Secaucus.
In recognition of the milestone, Gonnelli and the town council issued an official town proclamation to Hudson Regional Health owner Yan Moshe and Dr. Nizar Kifaieh, who is president and CEO of the Secaucus hospital.
Gonnelli and the town council also designated October 4, 2026 as "Secaucus University Hospital Day" in town.
That's the day of Hudson Regional Health's free community festival.
The Secaucus town hospital first opened in 1976 as Riverside General Hospital. It later became known as Meadowlands Hospital Medical Center and under its previous owners, the hospital had financial and operational challenges.
In 2018, it came under new ownership by Moshe, who renamed it Hudson Regional Hospital. After he purchased the Secaucus hospital, Moshe launched an aggressive and ambitious Hudson County hospital takeover: He took over ownership of Hoboken University, Bayonne Medical Center and Christ Hospital in the Jersey City Heights from CarePoint, which ended up filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
Moshe closed Christ Hospital last winter to much criticism. It was a hostile takeover where CarePoint and Hudson Regional both sued each other.
As part of its 50th anniversary celebration of Secaucus having a town hospital, Hudson Regional will host two events for the community:
A free family festival from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 4 in the parking lot of Secaucus University Hospital (55 Meadowlands Parkway). The event will be co-hosted with Mayor Mike Gonnelli and the town and will include family-friendly activities including a bouncy house, carnival games, face painting, balloon artists, food and beverage trucks and live music.
Hudson Regional Health will also hold a 50th anniversary cocktail party to raise funds for the Hudson Regional Health Foundation, the non-profit arm of Hudson Regional Health. The cocktail party will be held at 5 p.m. September 16 at the hospital. Information for both events can be found by clicking here.

"During this time, the hospital has been an anchor of healthcare services that our residents have come to rely on. I am especially proud of the many upgrades at the facility, and the doctors, nurses and staff who make sure residents receive exceptional care. Congratulations and best wishes for continued healthcare excellence for decades to come."
