LYNDHURST, NJ — The New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority offers free, guided nature walks at DeKorte Park through a partnership with the Bergen County Audubon Society.
Upcoming walks are November 1, December 6 and December 16, all from 10 a.m. to noon. The December 6 walk celebrates Bergen Audubon's 85th anniversary. Bring binoculars if you have them.
Fall and winter are wonderful times to experience glorious flora and fauna at Richard W. DeKorte Park in Lyndhurst.
The New Jersey Meadowlands attract late fall migrants such as warblers and sparrows, and wintering birds including Cedar Waxwings, cardinals and woodpeckers. In the next few months, look for waterfowl including Buffleheads, Ruddy Ducks, Green-winged Teal and Canvasbacks. Once winter truly sets in, Northern Harriers, bald eagles, kestrels and hawks can all be seen in the Meadowlands.
In addition, red foxes can be seen in and around DeKorte Park.
"The NJSEA is pleased to provide visitors with spectacular landscapes amidst peaceful walking trails and scenic overlooks in DeKorte Park," said Jill Hirsch, President and CEO of the NJSEA. "We invite everyone to enjoy the park's stunning natural beauty and array of wildlife in fall and winter."
