SECAUCUS, NJ — This Sunday, Nov. 1, the Episcopal Church of Our Saviour in Secaucus will hold a special service for people experiencing grief and loss.
"We all carry memories of people who have changed our lives but are no longer with us," says the church. "Their love, kindness, wisdom and presence continue to shape who we are. Yet in the busyness of everyday life, we rarely have opportunities to share these memories, express our gratitude, or acknowledge the grief that accompanies loss."
On Sunday, November 1, at 9:30 a.m., Church of Our Saviour in Secaucus will host a special Service of Gratitude, Grief and Remembrance, open to everyone in the community.
During the service, participants will be invited to speak briefly about someone they have loved and lost — a parent, grandparent, spouse, sibling, friend, mentor or anyone whose life has touched their own. These are the everyday saints whose love and influence remain with us.
The service marks All Saints' Day, an ancient observance dedicated to remembering and giving thanks for those who have gone before us.
"Our culture doesn't give us many opportunities to talk openly about grief, or about the extraordinary people whose lives have shaped ours," said the Rev. Fletcher Harper, minister of Church of Our Saviour. "We want to create a space where people can remember, give thanks, shed a tear if they need to, and celebrate the love that continues even after someone has died. You don't need to be a churchgoer to appreciate how meaningful that can be."
The service will be welcoming, reflective and informal. People of all faiths and backgrounds, including those with no religious affiliation, are warmly invited. Participants are welcome to share a brief memory or simply listen and reflect.
All are welcome.
