SECAUCUS, NJ — A Secaucus man and part-time town employee was arrested Tuesday and charged with possession of child pornography.
Thomas Hindle, Jr., 27, of Secaucus, is charged with two crimes: endangering the welfare of a child (pornography) and endangering the welfare of a child (knowingly distributing items of child sexual exploitation or abuse).
He was put in handcuffs and taken to the Hudson County jail Tuesday.
Secaucus Police say he had a video of child sexual abuse. They also say they've been investigating his alleged online activities for more than a year.
In December 2025, the Secaucus Police Department began to investigate a tip that an image depicting child sexual abuse was uploaded from a storage medium that was registered to Hindle.
"The investigation revealed that Thomas J. Hindle, Jr. was the possessor of this video and distributed the video, depicting child sexual abuse material," said Secaucus Police.
On Tuesday, Nov. 3, members of the Secaucus Police Detective division, assisted by the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office Internet Crimes Against Children unit and New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children unit, executed a court-authorized search warrant of Hindle's Schopmann Drive home. During the search, several electronic devices and hard drives belonging to Hindle were seized.
Hindle is charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child [2C:24-4b(5)(b)(III)] and Endangering the Welfare of a Child [2C:24-4b(5)(a)(I)].
Secaucus Police Chief Dennis Miller declined to answer when asked why it took Secaucus Police 11 months to charge Hindle after they first got the tip in December 2025.
"The investigation was and still is ongoing," Miller responded. "Additional charges may follow."
Hindle works as a part-time employee for the town of Secaucus; he works at the Rec Center. He was also doing some volunteer reporting for the Secaucus Patch.
"The Secaucus Police Department will continue to hunt anyone who victimizes our most vulnerable population, our children, by exploited them on the internet," Miller said in a press release released Wednesday announcing Hindle's arrest. "Since the Secaucus Police Department joined the ranks of Internet Crimes Against Children [I.C.A.C.] Task Force in 2022 we have demonstrated our commitment to bringing child predators to justice. Additionally, my detectives have my unwavering support."
